Bio
Jazz - Vocals/Guitar.
Chad - Bass/Vocals.
Karlos - Guitar/Vocals.
ED209 - Drums. How can four people cause such a fuss is such a small amount of time? This is the question Right Turn Clyde ask themselves ever since their debut gig caused 120 people who hadn't even heard them play a note, crammed themselves into the tiny backroom of The Portland Arms in Cambridge, all the way to them getting Single of the Week in Kerrang! just 4 months later.
Funny how a band can just start on the right track considering just 6 weeks earlier they hadn't even played together. "We thought that if we didn't have anything planned then we would just piss away the time and achieve nothing" says Jazz, RTC's singer/guitarist. "We had the idea of booking a gig and then have a least something to work for. We didn't even have a drummer!"
RTC met 5 yrs ago at college when two of them were studying music whilst the other one (Chad) was just kind of there. They then left to pursue fame and fortune within their own bands and ironically each one almost made it. Jazz was in local glitterboy punk icons The Saffs whilst Chad enjoyed Peel Sessions and NME support with Hofman. ED209 had his own venture with Buried Trevor but within time all three bands came to a natural end.
It was then that Jazz and Chad decided to form Right Turn Clyde (from a film about a man and his monkey). Ed209 came staggering into the fold after drunkenly bragging about his drumming reference from Motorhead .Jazz and Chad quickly accepted this shallow gesture and Right Turn Clyde were born.
So with the line up complete it was time to get down to the music. With a huge range of musical tastes flowing through each member, it was important to get their own style across. From influences ranging from REO Speedwagon to Black Sabbath and from The Wildhearts to Alkaline Trio the band managed to ciphen these down into the music you hear today.
Following the aforementioned Kerrang! praise, RTC went hard to work on making friends and influencing people. Constant gigging, the odd stop to record for a compilation (Check out Wild Skies) and more critical acclaim came and went but it was their 1st anniversary when the band decided to step up a gear.
Enter Karlos! Found wandering the streets with some impressive side burns by ED209, he was asked if he could play guitar. 'No!' Was the response, but 209 was persistent and handed him a CD. 'Learn this, we're playing Strawberry Fair (England's largest free festival) next Saturday so we'll see you there!' Then, just before they were about to play in front of the 1000 strong crowd, Karlos appeared, guitar in hand and he rocked!! The power trio had mutated into a power quad and a new era for the band was born.
Now with a new single and tour planned for the autumn now seems the time for Right Turn Clyde to really make their mark. 'Fuck Politics, Fuck Image and Fuck Attitude. Its about the songs and the music and we're not leaving until we're in your head and have helped ourselves to a drink!' You have been warned!!
